about

I play mostly in DADGAD when I am doing Irish Seisiúns and have been writing a lot in that wonderful tuning the past few years. I don’t often write ‘relationship’ songs and now there are three on this recording, all in DADGAD. Perhaps it is the melancholy feel of the guitar in DADGAD that brings it out of me or maybe I am just getting old and weepy.

LIKE SO MANY THINGS
© Bob Wright

she walked on water
thats what I thought of her
for a long time
but I was over my head

I believed her
when she told me
she would always be there
to hold me
in a cold bed
when I needed her most

but like so many things
it wasn’t meant to be
and I’ve fallen so far

don’t try to tell me
I should get over her

I remember when I met her
I remember when she told me
she was leaving here
it just didn’t seem real
cause the woman that
I thought I knew
taught me to feel

she walked on water
thats what I thought of her
for a long time
but I was over my head

but like so many things
it wasn’t meant to be
and I’ve fallen so far

don’t try to tell me
I should get over her

They surface in a modern world, constructed with a modern sensibility and a comforting resonance with the past. ... more
