about

The great baseball player, George Herman (Babe) Ruth, grew up in an area of Baltimore called Pigtown. He was certainly one of the greatest baseball players ever, and arguably the best of all time, but there is no doubt about the impact he had on the game. His hometown, Baltimore, is a great baseball city and while he played briefly for the Orioles, Babe Ruth made his name in two other great baseball cities , who happen to have one of the greatest rivalries in sports... the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox. This is my little homage to an amazing sports legend and to three great baseball cities.

lyrics

PIGTOWN BOY
© Bob Wright

Batter batter chatter chatter
Open up the gates let the horsehide fly
Pitcher catcher it don’t matter
Everybody here to see the Pigtown Boy
Everybody here to see the Pigtown Boy

He got a body like a barrel
And a swing as sweet
as any piece of candy you may want to eat
lets it fly so fast and neat
the ball don’t even feel it till it hits the seats
the ball don’t even feel it till it hits the seats

Batter batter chatter chatter
Open up the gates let the horsehide fly
Pitcher catcher it don’t matter
Everybody here to see the Pigtown Boy
Everybody here to see the Pigtown Boy

short on speed long on fun
strong of arm when he’s on
makes that ball bounce off the sun
It ain’t nothin’ but a wonder just to watch him run
It ain’t nothin’ but a wonder just to watch him run

Batter batter chatter chatter
Open up the gates let the horsehide fly
Pitcher catcher it don’t matter
Everybody here to see the Pigtown Boy
Everybody here to see the Pigtown Boy

You can put him in the outfield
You can put him on the mound
Don’t leave him in the dugout
When your team is down
they’ll be cheering in the bleachers
every time he cross the plate
But he can’t play a piano at the bottom of a lake
No he can’t play a piano at the bottom of a lake

Batter batter chatter chatter
Open up the gates let the horsehide fly
Pitcher catcher it don’t matter
Everybody here to see the Pigtown Boy
Everybody here to see the Pigtown Boy

AND THAT BALL IS OUTTA HERE...

Bob Wright/ Harbortown New York, New York

He is a multi-instrumentalist, an award winning songwriter and Bob Wright songs are often mistaken for traditional songs because their immigrant roots run deep beneath the surface of America and back to the places they came from for nurturing and inspiration. They surface in a modern world, constructed with a modern sensibility and a comforting resonance with the past. ... more
